Face the Wall

The advisory on the elevator doors reads- "Please wear your masks, Observe social distancing, Avoid talking inside the elevator, and Please Face the Wall" The doors open and you enter nonchalantly. Two men are in the corners One fiddles with his phone the other stares blankly into space. you Face the Wall The elevator hums a monotonous hum as it descends Your mind begins to wander as you think about your upcoming day The passengers' reflections on walls are blurry but you can see their shapes Weren't there only three of you? You Face the Wall There is definitely one more passenger than there should be the reflection you see is hard to make out there is something strange about it, something inhuman, something wrong It is staring at you You Face the wall Beads of sweat start to form on your forehead Why hasn't the elevator stopped yet? It feels like you've been going down for minutes now. Has it always been so hot in there? You Face the wall In the corner of your eye, you see the man with the bald head He is busy tapping on his phone His phone is dead The man on your left stands still Why is he so still? He doesn't seem to be breathing You Face the Wall The reflection of the fourth passenger unsettles you. Is it twisting? Shaking? It is smiling. It is staring at you and it is smiling. It begins to move. Oh god it is moving. You Face the Wall. There is a sound of a ding. The doors open and you leap out of the elevator, not knowing what floor you are on. Panting, you contemplate on turning around. You want to know. Did all of that just happen? Did you really see what you saw? You want to turn around but do not. The doors begin to close behind you The lights of the elevator illuminating the hall start to get smaller. Before they disappear, you see a shadow standing beside yours. You Face the Wall.
