Reviewing Match Day

A very interesting day in the first half of the quarters finals of the ongoing world cup in Qatar. Brazil loosing to Croatia via penalties and the same also happening in the Argentina and Netherland match with Lionel Messi team advancing.

This world cup is perhaps the one with the most surprises I've seen in a world cup tournament. Both teams I was rooting for today didn't advance to the next stage and although I didn't have the time to watch the match, I was able to follow up on the scores and highlights as the matches progressed.

Croatia are in the semifinal of yet another world cup and who knows this time they just might win it. I remember the last world cup, no one saw them making it to the finals but bit by bit, match by March they progressed and were in the final to face off with France. This time around we see the same scenario playing out, because most of the wins in the group stage have not been exactly convincing win with large margins but they've proven they can do it and now they're in the semis to face off with Argentina.

Argentina another team that started on a surprising note with a loss to Saudi Arabia but have so far progressed in the tournament. One might say their talisman and national hero Lionel Messi is responsible for this since this is probably his last world cup and last chance to win it. I don't think I've seen a better Argentinian team than this one. There's more cohesiveness and trust in the way they move the ball, with Lionel Messi being at the center of it all. A face off with Luka Modrics Croatia might be their biggest block to the trophy as only the two most dangerous looking teams at the moment which is France and England are to face off and only one can make it to the semis.

The other half of the quarter finals will have Portugal vs Morroco and France vs England. The two advancing sides will be meeting in the semi final. Morocco winning will mean an African team finally makes it to the semi final, but like Argentina,. Portugal are also going all out to make it a memorable world cup for Cristiano Ronaldo.

With so many setbacks and surprises springing up so far. At this stage I believe anything can happen and we just might be seeing a final we've never witnessed before. Already this world cup has been tagged by many as the best so far in the history of world cups, only time will tell.
