The Bombay High Court has again rejected the interim bail application of Arnab Goswami, editor-in-chief of Republic TV, India. At noon on Monday (November 9), the Bombay High Court dismissed the petition and advised him to go to the lower court.

Arnab was arrested by police from his Mumbai home early Wednesday (November 4th) morning in a case of inciting an interior designer and his mother to commit suicide. Mumbai police claimed in their suicide note that Arnab Goswami was in financial straits as he did not pay Rs 54 million. That is why they are committing suicide. The son of the interior designer then filed a defamation suit against Arnab and incitement to suicide.

After a lengthy eight-hour hearing on the first day of his arrest, an Alibag court in Maharashtra remanded Arnab to 14 days in jail. In addition to the midnight order, the court also dismissed the allegations of harassment against the police. Arguably, the medical report found no evidence of police harassment.

At Monday's hearing, Arnab and his lawyers said arresting him and reopening a two-year-old case against him were both illegal. However, before the High Court hearing on that day, the Republic TV authorities applied for Arnab's bail in the lower court. The lower court is expected to take a decision on the matter by Friday.

Arnab Goswami is widely known in India for his aggressive nature of presentation and questions. But in the eyes of critics, he is sympathetic to India's right-wing politics. After the death of Bollywood actor Sushant Rajput, he harshly criticized the Mumbai police. He is also a fierce critic of the Shiv Sena coalition government in Maharashtra.
