Iran's military has launched a massive naval exercise in strategic areas in the Persian Gulf.
The exercise will be held in the northern part of the Indian Ocean from the eastern part of the Persian Strait of Hormuz. News of the Star Tribune.
The area where the Iranians have started navigating is the only way for international ships to enter the Persian Gulf. Through this route a huge portion of the fuel oil goes to different countries of the world.
The Iranian military says it is conducting the exercise, dubbed Zulfiqar-99, to strengthen the security of this important regional naval route and the safety of international ships.
Iran has repeatedly conducted military exercises in the Persian Gulf and the Indian Ocean. In those exercises, new types of weapons and military equipment have been tested. However, it is not yet certain whether any new weapons will be tested this time.
