Man began to multiply from Noah and his three sons, Ham, Shem, and Japheth. God commanded them to spread all over the world.
Genesis 11:1-4
[1]At one time all the people of the world spoke the same language and used the same words.
[2]As the people migrated to the east, they found a plain in the land of Babylonia and settled there.
[3]They began saying to each other, “Let’s make bricks and harden them with fire.” (In this region bricks were used instead of stone, and tar was used for mortar.)
[4]Then they said, “Come, let’s build a great city for ourselves with a tower that reaches into the sky. This will make us famous and keep us from being scattered all over the world"
Man again began to disobey God. God commanded them to spread over the world. Instead they decided to build a tower so high that it could be seen from afar so they could a make their name great and would not scatter on earth. They refused to obey what God commanded.
Who do you think was behind all this disobedience? Satan from the beginning wanted to make his name great and destroy man to prevent the birth of the promised Savior. Clearly, Satan is again stirring mankind to sin. Mankind began to behave like Satan. They also wanted to make their name great by building a tower that would reach heaven. Remember, Satan once said in his heart:
Isaiah 14:13-14
[13]For you said to yourself, ‘I will ascend to heaven and set my throne above God’s stars. I will preside on the mountain of the gods far away in the north.
[14]I will climb to the highest heavens and be like the Most High'
God knew Satan was again stirring mankind to sin so that He would destroy them and the promised MALE-OFFSPRING who will crush Satan will never be born. To prevent man's rebellion.
Genesis 11:5-7
[5]But the lord came down to look at the city and the tower the people were building.
[6]“Look!” he said. “The people are united, and they all speak the same language. After this, nothing they set out to do will be impossible for them!
[7]Come, let’s go down and confuse the people with different languages. Then they won’t be able to understand each other".
God the Lord or WORD (the self of God) came down to earth from heaven to see what mankind were doing as He once came down to look for Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden. After finding what they were doing,
God came down to earth and confused their language to prevent man's rebellion that might cause them to be destroyed. From then on, mankind began to talk in different language and they began not to understand each other.
Genesis 11:8-9
[8]In that way, the lord scattered them all over the world, and they stopped building the city.
[9]That is why the city was called Babel, because that is where the lord confused the people with different languages. In this way he scattered them all over the world.
God always punished sin because God hates sin. It is very clear that God does not want man to follow Satan who likes to share with man his punishment in hell. God wants man to follow Him that man may live with Him forever.
