While Cain and his descendants had rejected and forgotten God, the descendants of Seth began to call on the name of the Lord.
Genesis 4:26 [26]When Seth grew up, he had a son and named him Enosh. At that time people first began to worship the Lord by name.
During their time, people lived long lives.
Genesis 5:8-27 [8]Seth lived 912 years, and then he died. [9]When Enosh was 90 years old, he became the father of Kenan. [10]After the birth of Kenan, Enosh lived another 815 years, and he had other sons and daughters. [11]Enosh lived 905 years, and then he died. [12]When Kenan was 70 years old, he became the father of Mahalalel. [13]After the birth of Mahalalel, Kenan lived another 840 years, and he had other sons and daughters. [14]Kenan lived 910 years, and then he died. [15]When Mahalalel was 65 years old, he became the father of Jared. [16]After the birth of Jared, Mahalalel lived another 830 years, and he had other sons and daughters. [17]Mahalalel lived 895 years, and then he died. [18]When Jared was 162 years old, he became the father of Enoch. [19]After the birth of Enoch, Jared lived another 800 years, and he had other sons and daughters. [20]Jared lived 962 years, and then he died. [21]When Enoch was 65 years old, he became the father of Methuselah. [22]After the birth of Methuselah, Enoch lived in close fellowship with God for another 300 years, and he had other sons and daughters. [23]Enoch lived 365 years, [24]walking in close fellowship with God. Then one day he disappeared, because God took him. [25]When Methuselah was 187 years old, he became the father of Lamech. [26]After the birth of Lamech, Methuselah lived another 782 years, and he had other sons and daughters. [27]Methuselah lived 969 years, and then he died.
However, even when they live long lives, man still dies because of sin. Remember that Adam and Eve were not able to eat the fruit of the tree of life because God drove them out of Eden and did not allow them to live forever as sinners.
Any thought?

When God told man, not to eat from the tree of knowledge for he would surely die, it means if he doesn't eat from the tree of knowledge, Adam would surely live; hence the tree of life. When the serpent asked the woman “what did God say about the tree of knowledge of good and evil”, she responded “not to eat or touch it or you will die”. The serpent then said “you will not die, for the day you eat of it your eyes will be opened and you will be like God knowing good and evil”. In the serpents statement, he lays the trap, for his words are controversial, which is conflictive to the woman, so she thinks about it, and in the end she agrees with the serpents arguement. This is why scripture says that she took some of the fruit and ate it, and she gave the fruit to Adam and he ate it also. Adam's added fruit was of rebellion, for he tells God that he "did" eat. So what was Adam's controversy? Now that the woman has eaten of the fruit of knowledge, she us lost to death, while Adam is still alive for he has not bitten the fruit of knowledge yet. If Adam had walked away from the ordeal, he would have been safe, but what would that have said about his love for his wife? Adam chose his wife over the law because he loved her. This is why God said you harkened into your wife.
Later when God says “let them not eat from the tree of life that's in the midst of the garden lest they live in this state for ever, in an eternal life in the fallen state”. The serpent who still resides in the midst of the garden would've had access to them and his influence would keep man in the fallen state forever! One other thing, the tree of knowledge of good and evil, should actually read, the tree of knowledge of good VERSES evil, for the serpent represents evil, while Gods law represents good. The fruit eaten was controversy, conflict and rebellion, the three parts of the tree of knowledge that man ate. Scripture says that man cannot save himself for he constantly lives in conflict, created through the controversies that come up in every day life; and through these ordeals, comes rebellion.
