Noah's Burnt Sacrifices

Noah and his family had experienced how sin and evil brought death all over the earth. Noah knew that they, too were sinners. God's ark saved them physically from the flood but they also needed salvation for their soul from the judgment of sin. Since the wages of sin is death, Noah and his family are still going to die and suffer judgment if no one is going to die in their place. So...

Genesis 8:20-21

[20]Then Noah built an altar to the lord, and there he sacrificed as burnt offerings the animals and birds that had been approved for that purpose.

[21]And the lord was pleased with the aroma of the sacrifice and said to himself, “I will never again curse the ground because of the human race, even though everything they think or imagine is bent toward evil from childhood. I will never again destroy all living thing

Noah and his family knew what the justice of God required. Sin must be paid with death...without a substitute, the sinners must die for their sins. Knowing that, they humbled themselves and offered burnt animal sacrifices to God, appealing to God's promised SALVATION. The sacrifice makes God remember the salvation He promised to Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden and His prophesy of how the Savior will suffer to save man from Satan, sin and death. God promised and revealed this truth to Adam and Eve in the garden. He also consequently confirmed this salvation when God accepted Abel and his offering. Noah had FAITH in God's promised SALVATION as Abel did.

Noah's faith pleased God. So God promised never again to curse the ground and destroy all living creatures.

Genesis 9:1-4

[1]Then God blessed Noah and his sons and told them, “Be fruitful and multiply. Fill the earth.

[2]All the animals of the earth, all the birds of the sky, all the small animals that scurry along the ground, and all the fish in the sea will look on you with fear and terror. I have placed them in your power.

[3]I have given them to you for food, just as I have given you grain and vegetables.

[4]But you must never eat any meat that still has the lifeblood in it.

From this time on God allowed mankind to kill and eat animal meat for food. However, God warns man for the blood of his fellow human beings.

Genesis 9:5-6

[5]“And I will require the blood of anyone who takes another person’s life. If a wild animal kills a person, it must die. And anyone who murders a fellow human must die.

[6]If anyone takes a human life, that person’s life will also be taken by human hands. For God made human beings in his own image.

No animal or human being is allowed to destroy or kill human life for God made man in the image of God. Then God commanded Noah and his family to multiply.

Genesis 9:7-8,11,13-17

[7]Now be fruitful and multiply, and repopulate the earth.”

[8]Then God told Noah and his sons,

[11]Yes, I am confirming my covenant with you. Never again will floodwaters kill all living creatures; never again will a flood destroy the earth.”

[13]I have placed my rainbow in the clouds. It is the sign of my covenant with you and with all the earth.

[14]When I send clouds over the earth, the rainbow will appear in the clouds,

[15]and I will remember my covenant with you and with all living creatures. Never again will the floodwaters destroy all life.

[16]When I see the rainbow in the clouds, I will remember the eternal covenant between God and every living creature on earth.”

[17]Then God said to Noah, “Yes, this rainbow is the sign of the covenant I am confirming with all the creatures on earth."

God promised Noah never to destroy the earth with flood again. God put a rainbow as a sign that He will always remember His promise. This, however, does not mean that God will not punish sin and wickedness.

What do you think God will use to punish wickedness on earth again?

Do you think Satan would like that man will multiply and fill the earth?

Do you think Satan would like that Noah and his family will walk with God?

Genesis 9:18-19

[18]The sons of Noah who came out of the boat with their father were Shem, Ham, and Japheth. (Ham is the father of Canaan.)

[19]From these three sons of Noah came all the people who now populate the earth.

Noah's Children became the beginning of modern mankind. Satan failed to completely destroy man that he may prevent the birth of the promised SAVIOR. This means that the promised MALE-OFFSPRING of a woman will surely be born to crush Satan.

Any thought?
