Cain and Abel believed there is God. They knew they were sinners, impure, unclean, and that they are going to die and be punished for their sins. They knew that apart from God they thought of coming to God their creator to seek His help and forgiveness.
Genesis 4:3-5.... Cain brought some of the fruits of the soil as an offering to the Lord. But Abel brought fat portions from some of the firstborn of his flock. The Lord looked with favor on Abel and his offering, but on Cain and his offering he did not look favor. So Cain was very angry, and his face was downcast.
Cain offered some fruits from his crops, the product of his own toil out of the cursed ground. God was not pleased with Cain and his offering just as He was not pleased with Adam and Eve in their leaf garments. Why was that?
But for Abel, we understand that he killed some firstborn animals from his flock and brought the fat portions unto God as his offering. The Lord was pleased with Abel and his offering. Why was that?
The Bible says that Abel's offering was better than Cain's (Hen.11:4) and more pleasing to God just as God's skin clothing made for Adam and Eve was much better and more pleasing than of Adam and Eve's man-made leaf garments.
We can recall back in the Garden of Eden that after God promised to send a Savior to crush Satan whom God foretold will also suffer in the process, God, as we understood,"sacrificed" or took an innocent animal's life in order to change Adam and Eve's leaf garments with better skin garments. In essence the animal became a sacrifice....a sign or a "shadow" of how the promised Savior will suffer as God foretold in order to crush Satan that He might save Adam, Eve and their offspring. We will continue what's happen on the next episode.
