Most people still refer to them as junior highers-after that uniquely American educational institution called junior high school-even though middle schools continue to replace and outnumber junior high schools in many areas of the country. In the middle of the 20th century, young adolescent approximately 10-14 years old were isolated as category, and schools were created especially for them because it was recognized that early adolescence is unique. 10-14 years old are not the same as elementary school children. But neither are they like the adolescents who attend high school. They are the in between group, and they belong in a category all their own.

But simply labeling or categorizing them is not enough. Junior highest need special attention and junior high schools need to be more than mere holding tanks is cake did own versions of the high school where kids wait until they are old enough to transfer into the real thing. It is ironic that there are few people who dispute the significance of early adolescence as a stage of life; yet it is safe to say that junior highest remain one of the most neglected groups of people in society. Grownups don't think you're very important if you are 10 and under 14, a 12-year-old girl wrote. "But if you're than 10 and older than 14, then you're important.

More and more educators, parents, policy makers and researchers are agreeing with each other that early adolescence is the "last best chance" to significantly influence in a positive way the paths that young people will take in their development.

Many high school students have already made a serious life-changing decisions that are beyond intervention or influence. It is simply to late. But this is generally not the case with junior highest. Let's understand deeper how to meet the needs of early adolescent youth.

Any thought?
