Are you a Good leader?

To whom much is given, much is Expected. Power can be intoxicating and destructive. So many people take up political offices and other positions with Good intentions but after having a taste of what Power is, they go astray.

However, what most of them fail to realise is that they are in the position because of people who voted them in or selected them. They are called to serve and not to dominate or dictate. Their job is to lead and direct the others to achieve a general goal by utilising their potentials to the fullest. But when the Leader sees himself as a demi-god or a slave driver what can the followers do?.

I could feel the Agitation of my friends when someone who we all selected to be the leader of a group ended up being a whip to us all. During his campaign and manifesto he made promises to us and was always there for everyone during the first few weeks of his resumption into office. What went wrong?. How did a man who is loved by all become the first President to be impeached in the history of the club?.

I believe Every leader should have the following Qualities in order to remain the people's favourite;

Be easy to apprach

Be approachable. Be the type of person people can run to at anytime. People shouldn't be afraid of walking up to you to either share an idea or lodge a complaint. Don't turn yourself into a Monster others can't approach. People should be able to share their Grievance with you.

Lead by example

It's normal for people to feel lazy sometimes. Be the best cheerleader to your followers, subject or workers. Show them how things should be done. Put your hands in the dirt sometimes if required. Trust me if they see how effectively you are doing it, they won't hesitate in doing it as you want when you ask them to.

Abide by the rules you set. You can't ask people to come to work by 9am,yet you resume by 12 noon. Except if it's your own business. Lol

Listen to the opinions of others (communication)

Be Open to ideas from people. Two heads are better than one. Don't just be the only one bringing up ideas. Try to get opinions of others. The person who you count as the least might be the one to come up with the best idea.

Select a good team

Don't burden yourself with too much work. Give out some work to people you know are competent for such jobs. By giving out work to people you tend to boost their confidence and they will strive to return the faith you place on them with an excellent result.

Leave room for criticism

I know how painful it is to read so many bad reviews about your work. It sometimes look like your effort isn't appreciated by the people you are serving. Don't feel discouraged, instead try to work on your short comings. If you are the type that doesn't want to hear any criticism, you are on your way to remaining stagnant.

Take your stand (Assertiveness)

Do not be Bias or partial. When someone breaks the rule. Dish out the right punishment to them. But be sure to do the same when someone else do the same. If one of your favourite staffs or subject breaks a rule and you overlook it, the others might get the wrong message.

The best way to show you won't condone any form of misbehaviour is when you make someone they all feel you have soft spot for as an example. Though he/she might feel hurt, try to make him/her know how important it is to follow the rules. With time they will come around.

Overlook and forgive sometimes (Empathy)

This might look contradictory to the point stated above, but it's beneficial when you show mercy sometimes. It strengthens the relationship and respect between the parties involved.

Appreciate your team (Appreciation)

Take out time to appreciate people working with you. When they do something great do well to give them the required accolade. You can give out gifts to show how much you appreciate their efforts.

Take out time to rest

Give yourself a deserving rest. Over working and stressing yourself can only lead to frustration and anxiety. And when this happens you tend to get annoyed at the slightest Provocation, which inadvertently leads to words you might regret saying later. Save yourself from health and mental breakdowns by taking rest sometimes.

There are other qualities a good leader should have among which are honesty, accountability, loyalty, responsibility, vision, organisation etc

Good leaders have good followers.. Before I wished to be a leader but then it carries more responsibilities... So i rather be a follower 🤣

True leader doesn't command, he serves. He don't create many followers but rather. he creates manu more leaders.

Most of my team leaders are good though sometimes because of some reasons that affected their moods their performance was affected too and sometimes did unreasonable decisions

I'm a certified ... follower hehe. Being placed in a leadership position overwhelms me. I imagine there's a lot of pressure when you are on top. You may see things you cannot simply make your subordinate understand . . .

Those traits that you listed down, i will gladly follow that leader with those traits.
