Stop, Listen And Reason.
New year resolutions. This is the time of the year when a lot of people around the globe begin to ponder on new things they want to do or old things they want to stop. This tradition dates back to the late 17th century and the origin rests with the Babylonians, who reportedly made promises to the gods in hope they'd earn good favour in the coming year.
New year resolutions in today's world are used for one of these two purposes or maybe both; firstly, they're a way to quantity what we wish for ourselves and perhaps most importantly, they are a method of erasing errors of the past year.
Then why do we have it that most times a lot of people find it difficult to keep to their resolutions? And sometimes for some people, they start out the year very good and then find it hard in-between?
The major answer I have for this question which is the main reason for this essay is that New year resolutions are another form of procrastination if not handled with maximum disciplinary actions. Imagine this scenario where a man has been addicted to drugs for the past 6years is still writing 'I want to quit drugs' as part of his resolutions. Is there any special power that comes with the new year to grant people their wishes?
We all don't necessarily need to wait for a new year before making the right decisions and acting on them. If there's something that's needed to be done, the best time to start is NOW.
This is to serve as a means of encouraging everyone that as we go into a new year, make better decisions and act on them immediately. Procrastination leads to failure. Everyday comes with tasks that we must do and in order to prevent pileups, do what you have to do when you have to do it. Remember the clock keeps ticking...
New year, new plans, and hopefully new achievements.
