Forming Positive Character in Children
Raising and educating children is not an easy matter. Parents' mistakes in applying parenting patterns can affect children's behavior in the future. Therefore, it is important for parents to learn the correct parenting principles in order to form positive characters in children.
Children are like blank white paper that can be decorated with scribbles or writing. The writing can make the paper beautiful or vice versa. Well, it all depends on the parenting style that parents apply to their children.
Good parenting can help foster a sense of caring, honesty, independence, and joy in children. Good parenting can also support children's intelligence and protect children from anxiety, depression, promiscuity, and alcohol and drug abuse. Good parenting can also reduce the risk of children experiencing behavioral disorders.
The main principle of good parenting is raising and educating children with love, as well as supporting, guiding, and being a pleasant friend.
Children tend to imitate what their parents do. Therefore, being a good role model for children is one way of educating children that is important for parents to do.
When you want to instill a positive character in children, set an example for them, for example by always telling the truth, behaving well and politely to others, and helping others without expecting anything in return.
In addition, show children how to live a healthy life, for example eating vegetables and fruits every day, brushing teeth after eating and at bedtime, and throwing garbage in its place.
As a parent, you may not realize that you have always followed the wishes of your children. Now, it's time to stop this habit and at the same time teach children so that they are not too spoiled.
For example, don't obey your child's wishes when he cries or has a tantrum because he refuses when his parents want to teach him to eat healthy, watch television at night, ask to buy something he doesn't need, or when he insists on playing gadgets.
Disciplining children is one form of child affection that is important for parents to do in forming good character in children.
However, don't scold him or even hit him when he makes a mistake. Try to gently but firmly rebuke him when he makes a mistake and give him understanding. Don't forget to also give praise when he does something good. This will motivate him to be a good boy.
Children who do not get the attention of their parents, can do bad actions or behave badly. Usually, they do this to get the attention of their parents.
So, no matter how busy you are, always make time to get involved in his life. Especially for fathers, this is very important to establish a good father and son relationship. But keep in mind, being involved in your child's life doesn't mean you have to be by his side all the time.
Make time for quality relationships and activities, such as having breakfast together, taking them to school, attending every event your child does, or simply talking before bed about the activities they do all day.
Training children to be independent can be instilled by giving children trust, opportunity, and appreciation. For example, by teaching children to tidy up their own toys and bed or simply getting them used to preparing their own school supplies.
When children enter adolescence, parents can also support and help children to solve their personal problems, namely by discussing and directing children's minds to take the best attitude.
Understand that independent learning is not easy for children. So, show your appreciation and affection for each of his endeavors and successes. For example, by thanking him or giving him praise when he does a good job.
You can also slip a piece of paper in his lunch that says "Mama loves and is proud of you". That way, the child will feel himself valuable. But remember, when they fail or make mistakes, don't make fun of them, let alone compare themselves to other children.
It's important to discipline your child, but not in a harsh way, such as using harsh words or even hitting them. Children who are used to being beaten by their parents tend to prefer to fight and resort to violence to solve problems with their friends.
Consistently applying the principles of good parenting is not as easy as imagined, considering that every parent also has limitations, both in terms of time and energy. It would be better if you focus on the things that most need attention first.
No less important, parents must understand that the environment and age can affect the behavior of children. So, apply parenting according to the age and development of your baby. If you are having trouble or if your child has behavioral problems, try to discuss and seek advice from other parents, your parents, or the teacher at your child's school.
Hopefully it can be useful for parents who are having children who are in the golden age, so that they can provide the best parenting for their children.
