Today, Pinterest.com holds the title of being the third largest social network out there below Facebook and Twitter and it is still growing every day. If you try to think about it, it is still pretty much the newcomer among the three but its growth has been excellent.
Marketers have been doing their all in creating pins and boards to promote their brand and also inspire their customers. Online marketers know that the growth and popularity of Pinterest will be the reason why it will be the next best social media platform for Internet marketing.
There is a learning curve when starting with Pinterest. This is plainly because it offers a very different platform compared to Twitter and Facebook which we are pretty used to. To make it even easier for all of you, here is a list of the best practices you can use to promote your brand on Pinterest.
#1. Follow a strategy
Make sure you know what you want to achieve before starting your Pinterest campaign. Do you want to direct traffic to your site? Do you want more sales? Or would you just want to increase your brand awareness? You must set your objectives straight so you can pin strategically.
#2. Promote others
Pinterest is not called "social media" for nothing. Build you brand through liking, commenting and re-pinning other pins. You can also tag other people on your pins through its descriptions.
#3. Put a Call to Action
Engage your audience through a CTA. You can easily do this by giving stuff away like e-books, white papers or podcasts. It has been known that pins that have a clear call to action has an 80-percent increase in engagement compared to other ordinary pins.
#4. Pin like a Human Being
Remember that although you are on Pinterest as a business, that doesn't mean you have to suffocate your followers with hard sells, call to action pins and branding pins. Make sure you also mix in some "non-business" pins every now and then. You can follow this tried and tested proportion. For every 10 pins, 4 will be motivational, 4 will be educational and 2 will be about your brand.
#5. Be an expert
Make sure your pin descriptions are keyword rich for your Google Rankings. This will help you establish your expertise on a specific field. Use your hashtags to highlight the phrases and/or words that your target market searches for.
#6. Pin Placement is everything (In a sense)
Placing your pins is like placing ads/content properly. The most optimal locations are the middle top and second row locations. Placing your best pins front and center gives them the highest percentage of viewers compared to other pins.
#7. Don't settle with pictures
Remember that you can always up the ante of your pins by using more interactive media such as screencasts, podcasts and videos. These could include product demos, tutorials, how-to's, and excerpts from webinars and presentations.
