A king had announced that four hundred dinars (gold coins) would be given to whoever spoke a good word.

One day the king went out to take care of his subjects

He saw a ninety-year old woman planting olive trees

The king said that you will die in five to ten years and these trees will bear fruit after twenty years, so what is the point of doing so much work?

The old woman replied that the fruits we ate were planted by our elders and now we are planting them so that our children can eat them!

The king liked the words of this old woman and ordered that four hundred dinars should be given to her

When the old woman was given the dinars, she began to smile

The king asked why are you smiling?

The old woman said that the olive trees were supposed to bear fruit after twenty years, while I have just received my fruit!

The king also liked this and issued an order to give him another four hundred dinars

When this woman was given another four hundred dinars, she started smiling again!

The king asked why are you smiling now?

The old woman said that an olive tree bears fruit only once in a whole year whereas my tree has borne fruit twice

The king then ordered that another four hundred dinars should be given to him

The minister said, why did you come out so quickly?

said the king

If I stayed with this woman any longer, all my wealth would be empty, but the wise words of the woman would not end

A good word captivates the heart, a gentle attitude turns an enemy into a friend, a wise word brings even kings closer

A good word increases friends in this world and decreases enemies and increases rewards in the Hereafter

You can buy goods with wealth but the heart can only be bought with good words, so be a buyer of the heart and not a seeker of wealth.
