Another weak, another circus. This time we have the Ethereum upgrade, and, if you staked anything on it, you can finally get your rewards and withdraw the funds at will. BTC is sitting nicely above $30K. Stargate Finance is the star of the week. What else? Read bellow:
Bitcoin: We had the BTC price going up to $30.5K, but that was all that happened, failing to raise above that for a few days. Still, a 6.67% rise is better than the 5% inflation in March. Even MicroStrategy was briefly on the profit, with their 140K BTC. Bitcoin price is also showing now on Chinese TikTok, so everybody is wondering if China is becoming more crypto-friendly.
Ethereum: As the ETH Shapella upgrade was coming, 1% of the total 18M ETH staked was expected to be offloaded. Once completed, 93K ETH was withdrawn, a mere 0.5%, and the price surged by 6.3%, overcoming the $2000 limit. Then we had 10%, all the way up to $2100. and then it stopped.
Altcoins: Keep an eye on Stargate Finance, the place where everybody is lately, for some reason. And Layer Zero cross-chain protocol too, where Stargate Finance is the most influential application. Ronin Staking debuted this week, and now you can stake and delegate your RON in order to earn 12%-30% rewards. Bank of England is looking to hire a team of up to 30 experts to develop their own CBDC. Montenegro teamed up with Ripple to explore a national digital currency too. Paxos is leaving the Canadian market following some regulatory uncertainty. Solana's crypto phone, Saga, goes on sale on May 8 and you can preorder it already. Uniswap launched a mobile wallet on iOS.
Blockchain games and NFTs: Bored Ape Yacht Club NFTs floor price is down again, the lowest in the last five months. The most expensive NFT sold lately is an Azuki #3628 with 329 ETH ($629K). Splinterlands lands can be now surveyed, and you can see if you won big or not. Good luck with it.
Good news: eToro and Twitter teamed up, working with symbols generating real-time prices for stocks and crypto, if you add the dollar sign in front of the crypto, like $HIVE for example. Dogecoin's value increased after the announcement, so why not? Winklevoss twins blended $100M of their own money to the exchange they founded, Gemini. El Salvador's inaugural digital asset service provider has been granted to Bitfinex, as they are on their way to creating the Volcano bonds.
Bad news: One former investment banker promised people large, guaranteed profits from crypto, but instead used their money to gamble, buy fancy stuff and pay previous investors. If convicted, he will do up to 20 years behind bars. A tech consultant was arrested on suspicion of murdering Bob Lee, the CashApp founder. Binance US struggle to find a banking partner, after the recent collapse of the 3 crypto banks serving their American clients. SushiSwap bug was exploited for $3.3M, with Sifu being targeted with an approve-related bug. Around $186K from the total was recovered.
Joke of the week: FTX legal team unveiled a plan for the exchange to reopen its US and international operations. Anyway, they will need to raise capital, and like me, I do not think that there are many willing to invest and trust the new management, even now.
