No lord of the ring, it's the Grumpy Dwarf King (a Splinterlands battle challenge story)

What is Splinterlands?

Splinterlands is a blockchain card game on Hive network, similar with Hearthstone, where you can play battle against other players to get a better rank or in tournaments. There is an ongoing airdrop daily, for a whole year, currently at day 35/365, and you can still get some nice governance tokens just by playing the game for the next year. Everything counts towards it, cards, DEC on HIVE, WAX, ETH and BSC, lands, titles, skins. You can maximize the airdrop by staking all you SPS for a 153% APR right now. You can rent your big good cards now, so extra DEC is coming. The brawls between guilds were upgraded few days ago, with two new buildings (Baracks for bonuses and strategies, and Shop for gladiator cards). It is getting more and more interesting, and I cannot wait for lands and totems to be activated.

The Grumpy Dwarf is a versatile common Neutral card, with Reach (Attacking from the second position) at level 1 and Enrage (Greater melee attack and speed when is damaged) at level 5, making it useful in Little League and Rise of Commons Rulesets, or in a low mana battle against Blast skill, where enrage can be useful. At max level it has a decent 3 Melee Attack, 3 Speed, 3 Armor and 4 Health, for only a 4 Mana cost. Truth is, I do not tend to use this card very often, as I favor the Horny Toad for its poison.

So, for the challenge, this were the starting conditions:

Mana Limit: 20

Rulesets: Fog of war (No Sneak or Snipe) and Spreading Fury (All got Enrage)

Teams:

Mine - Summoner: Daria Dragonscale (+1 Melee Damage Boost), Living Lava as main tank with reduced damage from Melee and Ranged, backed up by a Grumpy Dwarf with Reach (Attacking from the second position). Third one was a Flame Monkey with Repair, to support the main tank, and then I had some low mana fodder (Kobold Miner and Ant Miner with Scavenger), and finally a Chicken, which it was close to be completely useless, but also made me won the battle, with that extra +1 Health scavenged by the Ant miner.

Opponent - Summoner: Brighton Bloom, giving all card Fly, increasing Melee and Ranged damage evasion. A true pain on a such long battle. Main tank was a Spineback Turtle, returning damage with its Thorns, followed by Sea Monster with Heal. Chicken, Creeping Ooze with Slow and Crustacean King with Heal were also used to support their team. That double heal made my efforts useless when I was trying to kill the Sea Monster, even with the support of the Enrage.

This is, first of all, a perfect example on how a Chicken can be the difference between win or lose, as the extra health point scavenged by my Ant Miner when the Chicken died made me a winner. Second, it was a stalemate between two powerful tanks, one using Heal and other using Armor Repair. A 24 rounds long battle, settled up only by fatigue killing them slowly. How did this go? First one to die was the opponent Spineback Turtle, in Round 6, and then the Sea Monster and the Living Lava exchanged blows for another 14 rounds, until Fatigue started on Round 21. Both teams Chicken died instantly, followed by his Crustacean King and my Grumpy Dwarf and Flame Monkey. Then the Fatigue and his tank killed my tank and the Kobold Miner, leaving only the Ant Miner with 5 Health and the Sea Monster with 4 Health. Fatigue Damage 4 to each and i finally won, after a very long game that lasted almost 3 minutes, on Round 24.

Star of the game? Probably either the Flame Monkey, relentlessly keeping the tank alive, or the Ant Miner, winning just because kept adding health points during the game. Final choice? Furious Chicken.

On the side note, my continuous support for Splintertalk.io is going well, with my SPT tokens number raising to 1 million. All of it is delegated to @monster-curator, as this account is doing a great work curating the best posts on the forum. Next, I am slowly building some SPT power to manually curate on Splinterlalk.io also.

All the best,

George
