When we were younger, one of the things we were told was, 'police is your friend.' We believed it. Fast forward to now, I'm not sure we still believe that. At least, not in this part of the world. Here, people dread the police. Sometimes, reporting a crime becomes difficult because you'd automatically become the prime suspect. You see people walking away from a crime scene because they do not want to get involved and you really can't blame them. We hear about police brutality all the time.
Make no mistake though, there are times when the police actually do what they are supposed to. They do their jobs and catch, then punish the bad guys. That is exactly what they should do everyday. But the negligence sometimes surpass the good deeds. And we all know, one bad misconduct is enough to tarnish the reputation.
Have you seen a crime scene before, or had an opportunity to report a crime to the police? How did it go? I want to believe that the good they do is much better than the bad. I don't want to get started on women who get raped in prison by the police. Some get killed as well in the process. We blame it on a malfunctioning system.
What's the police like in your area? Do you love the police?
