INGREDIENTS NOTES

  • Salmon – look for center-cut fillets with skin on.

  • Soy Sauce – also called Tamari. If not concerned about gluten-free diet, use the regular variety.

  • Honey – gives the teriyaki sauce a touch of sweetness. Can use agave or brown sugar instead.

  • Lime – add the juice to the sauce and cut up wedges to serve with the finished dish.

  • Sesame Oil – adds a nutty flavor.

  • Ginger – mince fresh ginger root or use the jarred variety.

  • Minced Garlic – can also use garlic paste.

  • Sesame Seeds – I like to use multi-color blend, but choose your favorite.

  • Cornstarch – to help thicken the sauce.

  • Sriracha – adds a little heat. Use more or less to suit your preference.

  • Snow Peas (Snap Peas) – for fresh flavor, color, and crunch.

HOW TO MAKE INSTANT POT SALMON TERIYAKI

Get the complete ingredients list and instructions from the recipe card below.

  1. Combine the ingredients for the sauce and pour into the insert of your Instant Pot. 

  2. Place salmon fillets skin side down in a single layer the Instant Pot insert.

  3. Put on the lid, turn valve to thew sealing position, and set to manual pressure / high pressure for 1 minute.

  4. Pressure cook till done, quick release the remaining pressure and remove the salmon.

  5. Switch on the Instant Pot to sauté function. Add the peas to the remaining liquid and cook for about 2 minutes until it has thickened.

  6. Spoon teriyaki sauce and peas over the salmon and serve.

    RECIPE TIPS

    • Place the salmon skin-side down in the Instant Pot.

    • Don’t overcook the salmon. It should be flakey, not rubbery. 

    • Cooking time may need to be adjusted for thicker pieces of salmon, or if you are using frozen filets. 

    • The cook time listed does not include the time it takes for Instant Pot to come up to pressure or for the pressure to release.

      DELICIOUS VARIATIONS

      • Make it Spicy – Add an additional teaspoon of sriracha and a sprinkle of red pepper flakes to the cooked salmon increase the heat level just a bit. 

      • Top it Off – For more flavor, sprinkle the finished dish with additional sesame seeds and sliced green onions. 

      • Serve as a Salad – Leftover Instant Pot teriyaki salmon is delicious when chilled and served over a salad. 

      • Other Sauces – you can cook salmon this in your favorite sauce instead. I love lemon pepper sauce or lemon butter sauce.

        MAKE AHEAD AND STORAGE

        • Prep Ahead – You can mix up the teriyaki sauce ingredients up to 24 hours in advance. Leave out the sesame seeds and add those when you pour the sauce into the Instant Pot. 

        • Store – Leftovers can be stored in the fridge for up to 2 days. 

        • Freeze – Freezing this dish is not recommended.

          Yes, you can use frozen salmon fillets in this recipe. We recommend that you add 2 minutes to the cooking time. 

          Can I Use This Teriyaki Sauce For Other Recipes?

          The homemade teriyaki sauce used in this Instant Pot salmon recipe is excellent for use in other recipes. Try this recipe with a different type of fish, such as cod, or brush the sauce over chicken or veggies before grilling.
