WOMEN: Focus of the fashion Industry.

Hi, 

A little back story about what led to today’s write up. I was at the market today and it was the most fun and tiresome duo ever. I walked for about 2-3 hours in search of the perfect clothes, shoes and other essentials, and as the personality I want to be known for, I noticed some things.

So the fashion market serves both gender but the female gender takes about a good 5-10% upper hand when it comes to needs satisfaction, there is always a need for something new in the wardrobe. This constant ideology made some lead markers in the industry focus on this gender and are making it. It is presently a celebration period for the Muslims (Happy Eid-Muburak) and this brings a lot of people into the market to purchase a new clothing item for the ceremony.

Now here’s my rundown from today’s outing, I will be focusing on two aspects which is the demographics (female) and the dive a little bit into the retail world. Let’s go.

The demographics of females who are constantly shopping whether online or physical is one aspect that forecaster of the industry have predicted and is in constant reoccurrence. Brands who focus on women’s needs know that they should be able to provide at least 70-80% satisfaction to their consumers so as to keep them constantly coming, purchasing products and also refer to their friends. 

The retail industry is the last connection from the manufacturers, wholesalers to the consumers, they are the ones who are able to reach out to the consumers for the product to complete it’s final use and on the other is a money milking industry where there is constant supply of goods from different manufacturers who supply retailers with their products at a bulk fee, then the retailers sell to the consumers. Retailers of the fashion industry whose main focus is to sell female clothing or needs know how important it is to sell products that women need daily.  This is more of a general rule to making money when you want to start selling products and services. SELL WHAT PEOPLE USE ON A DAILY BASIS. 

Let’s do a case study of a product and we are talk about how demographics and the retail industry play a part in the industry. 

P.S The Nigerian market is the focus of this article.s

The product we are going to talk about is a purse. We are going to consider the demographics of females who will be purchasing these products and how big the retail industry is concerning these product.

Product A demographics will be females within the age range of 18-40, have a means of income to purchase this product, are either working class, mothers, ladies, students, have access to attending events or occasions that requires them carrying one, they see this product as an essential to make life easy for them and also keep their products safe, they have a price range of how much they afford to spend on a laptop bag which is between 5,000 – 20,000, they would go to Eko market to get this item rather than buy on the streets, color, taste and durability etc.

These are a few demographics that the retailers take into consideration when about to sell products to people, they know there is a need for this particular accessory, the people who needs this accessory, where they will got to buy this product, who they might be dealing with, taste and durability expectance and the size of their pockets. The retail market put all this into consideration for them to be able to get what a consumer will likely purchase. 

What does this mean or give out?

This gives out a lot of things but the key factors are there are a few things you need to consider when going into a market especially on the retailers end,

  • Research. 

  • Profitability of the product.

  • Value added to the user.

  • Location.

  • Pricing.

  • Taste of consumers.
