Significance of Taking a Break

Are you having a hard time taking breaks? Do you feel like taking breaks during your workday but you can't because of your responsibilities at work and at home?

We live in a world that fulls of responsibilities that make our day so busy which might give us stress and anxiety. However, we oftentimes forget to take a break for we are preoccupied with how to solve our financial problems and finish the tasks we have at home or at work. But did you know that taking breaks can be very beneficial for you and your work?

Taking a break - is having a short rest period in one's work or studies, other activities.

Based on some studies, short breaks such as lunchtime breaks has a positive relationship with well-being. Taking regular breaks can boost your productivity and performance too.

Recovering from work and school stress can restore your mental resources and energy. Besides, it can decrease the risk and development of cardiovascular disease and other health problems such as fatigue, sleep disorders.

During this time, having a job is very important to sustain our needs and to make our body healthy to avoid COVID-19. Some are taking risks just for little pennies for their families. They set aside their health just to give their families necessities.

It may be hard for you to take breaks but try to file a leave at work or leave your home once in a while and visit relaxing places. This way, you can help your body and soul recovered from exhaustion, stress, anxiety, you get from work or school.

You may think about how to do it, so here are some fun ways to enjoy your breaks from work or school.

Meditate - This is not troublesome to do because you only need a silent place to do it. Meditation is a good way to spend your study and work breaks. Studying and working require concentration, the same as in meditation. It invites your mind to completely relax. Once you return to your work or studies, you will be prepared and more focused that will allow you to continue working and studying with a sense of relaxation and ease.

Laugh - Humor and laughter can decrease the monotony of studying and working. We all have a different sense of humor, so find whatever it may be tickles your fancy such as watching a couple of clips of your favorite comedian or funny tv show. You could even call your friends who always manage to put a smile on your face. No matter how you decide to engage in humor or laughter, limit yourself, so you can resume studying and working in time.Β 

At work, watching videos might not be allowed, so do it on your breaks to refresh your mind even just for seconds or minutes.

Tidy Up- Clean workplace or environment is very important when we are studying or working but this is sometimes neglected for we are too busy with our tasks or lesson. We just want our works and homework done. But did you know that tidiness helps you too? Using your short breaks at work or school time to clean up your space can give your brain a rest while still maintaining your productivity. So, why not doing it often?

Quick Shower or Power Nap - Let’s face it, working and studying isn’t the most exciting activity in our life. There are times, while studying or working, we probably wanted to fall asleep or maybe we have fallen asleep unintentionally. Sleeping when you should be studying or working can hinder your progress.

To combat sleepiness, you could take a shower to wake you up and make you feel refreshed and energized. This is good for employees who WORK at Home and students who take lessons at home. They can use their few minutes break for a quick shower or nap. Cold showers stimulate your blood circulation and get the blood flowing, so it's a good way to give you extra energy to complete your studies/works. While A 10-20 minute nap can do wonders for your productivity, but make sure to set an alarm so you don’t fall asleep for hours.

Other ways to enjoy your breaks are as follows:

  • Traveling - This helps you forget your work or lesson for a while for you are focus and amazed. Just make sure to travel to a place that makes your body and soul relax. Travelling can expand your perception, shows you new ideas and ways of solving problems, and makes great memories.

  • Eat out - Eating out or treating yourself is another way to enjoy yourself. Try new cuisines in different restaurants or eat your favorite foods in your favorite restaurants.

  • Hiking- At first it's tiring but when you reach the peak of the mountains, it surely makes you relax and refresh because of the natural beauty and fresh air.

  • Visiting your loved ones (especially your relatives who live far away from you)

  • Island Hopping

  • Stay at home without thinking about your work or chatting with your peers and just enjoy the day with your family.

Taking a break once in a while is good not only for our bodies but also for our souls. There are different ways to spend your breaks to relax, refresh and reboot yourself from being exhausted from school and work. I highly recommend trying as many of these ideas until you find what best for you. Planning on how to spend your break is a good idea to make sure you spend it well and benefit you.
