Distractions are everywhere. Social media, gadgets, online and offline games are just examples of distractions in these new generations. Distractions that may cause the delay of ones' success and productivity.
Negative people around you may also cause a distraction for they are going to influence you to be one of them and doing bad habits like smoking, drinking too much alcohol which resulted to be a failure in many aspects.
Researchers found that it takes an office worker 25 minutes to return to the original task after an interruption. This is based on an experiment made by the authors ofย The Plateau Effect: Getting from Stuck to Success. He found out that work interruptions decreased accuracy by 20 percent.
So, here are a few ways to avoid distractions and to be more focused and successful.
- Distance yourself from negative people
Negative people are the people around you that pretending as your friend and a good person yet they are the one who breaks you secretly and makes you a negative person through their simple action like comparing you to others, criticize every decision or achievement you have and influence you by their unhealthy habits. Generally, a person who makes you feel drained and bad about yourself. Knowing how to distance yourself from these kinds of people may give you peace and success for you avoided people that may distract you from your focus on attaining your goal in life. Additionally, surround yourself with optimistic people, one who encourages, motivates, and helps you to achieve your goal.
-ย Switch off your smartphone notifications while working.
Giving yourself limit hours on checking and responding to emails, texts, and social media may avoid you from distraction. It may be hard to do it at first, especially when you used to it but when you give yourself a try, you can achieve the best result that you did not expect. Besides, this makes you more productive but if you can't turn it off for important reasons, turn off the tweet/text/e-mail alerts, especially if you know you jump every time you hear it.
- Take care of your physical health.
Having a break from work is essential. Giving yourself breaks and do exercise is one way to relax your body and may avoid distractions. Adding plenty of sleep and healthy eating are better for they may promote mental health and focus.
- Make things at your workplace clean or neat.
Making sure your workplace like office or desk is comfortable, well lit, and orderly will make you motivated and more productive and this may avoid any distractions like specks of dirt, unused papers, or things you do not need.
- Take it one thing at a time.
There are times or days that we are too worried because of many works to do and finish in a day. Doing list-to-do and practicing time management can help you survive your hectic schedule. It is very important to focus on one task until it is completed then do the next one rather than doing multi-tasking yet the quality of your work may compromise. Always keep in mind, to take one thing at a time for you to avoid distractions like over-thinking and to be stressed.
Distractions may be delayed us to achieve our goal in life but always keep in mind your priorities in life for you are the only one who can act to fulfill your dreams. Others can help you yet only you can start the first step. Those mentioned above are just some ways to help you to be focused and more productive. Applying them to your daily life may give you success and fulfillment.
