Today I am going to talk much on conflict its types and how it can be resolves. This topic is not new to anyone here or is there a novice to this topic? Conflict is simply when there is no peace in a country or it can even be present in anyone's individual and social life. Conflict is also a state in which there is no unity but anarchy and doom. So there are many definitions of this term but I would like to look into a simple one. Let me get back to my topic.
Definition of Conflict:
Conflict is the disagreement among groups or individuals characterized by antagonism and hostility. Conflict is usually fueled by the opposition of one party to another in an attempt to achieve an objective different from that of the other party.
Types of Conflict:
Conflicts can be classified into the following four types;
1. Inter-personal Conflict: interpersonal conflict refers to a conflict between two individuals. This occurs when people are different from one another. We have varied personalities or individual differences which result to incompatible opinions and choices.
2. Intra-Personal Conflict: intrapersonal conflict occurs within an individual, it takes place in the person’s mind. It is a type of conflict that is that is psychological, it involves an individual’s thought, values, principles and emotions. It happens when you find it difficult to decipher your inner struggles, thus, it can lead to depression.
3. Intra-Group Conflict: is a type of conflict that happens among individuals within a team. The incompatibilities and misunderstandings among those individuals lead to intra-group conflict. It may lead to tension among the members of the group.
4. Inter-Group Conflict: inter-group conflict takes place when a misunderstanding arises among different teams within an organization. E.g. the sales department of an organization can come in conflict with the customer support department, due to the varied of the sets of goals of the departments.
Causes or Sources of Conflict
1 Economic Conflict/ Factor: this is brought about by the availability of limited resources which results in the group or individuals involved coming into conflict to attain the of the limited resources. Thus, bringing forth hostile behaviors among those involved.
2 Value Conflict or Factor: is concerned with the varied preferences and ideologies people have as their principles. Here, separate parties have sets of beliefs they profess violently.
3 Power Conflict /Factor: occurs when the parties involved intends to maximize the influence it has in the social setting. Such situation can arise among individuals, groups or even countries. In other sources or causes of conflict, power is also evident because every conflict involves the exerting of influence over another.
CONFLICT RESOLUTION
Conflict resolution is finding a peaceful solution to individuals and groups that are in conflict. Conflict resolution or management require the application of different conflict management styles such as: Accommodating, Avoiding, Collaborating, Competing and Compromising.
Conflict Management Styles (How to Deal with Conflict)
1. Accommodating: accommodating means having to deal with the conflict with an element of sacrifice and selflessness. It involves the mediator setting aside his own concerns in order to maintain peace in the conflict situation.
2. Avoiding: in this approach, there is a withdrawal from the conflict. The problem is being dealt with through a passive attitude. The individuals end up ignoring the problem so that the parties involved in it will feel that you are neglecting the problem. However, this may not be applicable in all conflict situations.
3. Collaborating: collaborating aims at finding a solution to the conflict through cooperating with other parties involved. In this style, effort is exerted in digging into the issue to identify the needs of the individuals concerned without removing their respective interests from the picture.
4. Competing: competition here involves authoritative behaviors. Here, the aggressive individual aims to instill pressure on the parties to achieve a goal. Care is taken to deal with the conflict with an open mind.
5. Compromising: compromising is coming up with a resolution that would be acceptable to the parties involved to the end that one party is willing to sacrifice his or their own set of goals as long as the others will do the same. It is a mutual give-and –take scenario.

So today we have seen the the meaning, types and causes of conflict and also the way it can be resolved. Conflict is just like a natural phenomenon.
