The US Department of Justice reported that it confiscated more than $ 2 million worth of cryptocurrencies from three terrorist groups. This confiscation of cryptocurrencies from terrorists was the largest in history.

US law enforcement agencies were able to access 300 wallets associated with terrorist groups. According to the American authorities, these addresses were used by al-Qaeda terrorists, the Al-Qassam Brigade (Hamas's military wing) and the terrorist organization ISIS, banned in Russia.

“This is a historic and unprecedented action for several reasons. We see three organizations at once become the target of law enforcement agencies to prevent the financing of terrorism, ”said Acting US Attorney for the District of Columbia Michael Sherwin (Michael Sherwin).

Justice Department officials noted how similar the various terrorist groups are and how they finance their activities digitally - they use cryptocurrencies and work closely on social media to get funding.

Recall that, as the analytical company Whitestream reported at the end of June, ISIS no longer accepts Bitcoin donations and prefers Monero.
