Girls Right
Children are an important asset for any nation. In the human lifespan, the childhood period is considered most significant, since it's the foundation period of life. But unluckily Womens and girls were always have suffered and still suffering from Gender and age based discirmitation in forms of survival and needs, Sexual abuse and exploitation, Trafficking of girls, female feticide, female infanticide, girl children marriage, FGM(Female genital mutiliation) etc., from their mother's womb until death.
Right to life
Some reports shows that there are approximately 100 million less girls than there could have been in the world, 80 million of whom would have come from Only India and China due to the practices of female infanticides(killing of girl child within a year) and feticide(abortion of fetus if its girl) only. So the first and most important right for every girl in the whole world is the Right to Life.
Right to Education
If we look at the education of girls in the world there is a huge difference in the literacy rate of girls vs boys. This is because our society thinks that girls are expected to spend their life doing household tasks, and play the role of wife, mother. Since the last few decades when womens were provided the right to education a lot of changes have happened in society in all aspects.
Right to health
Like the story of Sulekha, there were a lot of girls who were deprived of medical care, good hygiene and sufficient nutrition which led them to more vulnerable growth problems and death when they were still young. Child pregnancy is another serious problem concerning girls' health which occurs due to forced marriage and girls are still too underdeveloped to safely carry a child.
FGM(Female genital mutiliation) practices in some parts of Africa and asia is another violation of children's right. This is practiced when girls are about to hit their puberty specially in muslim peoples. As per the latest reports 3 million girls and teenagers suffer, some cases were seen in India too regarding the same. This practice can lead to irreversible health problems and fatal infections.
Right to protection
A lot of Girls all over the world are victims of child marriage, forced pregnancy, trafficking amd sexual assualts. Furthermore it is important to highlight that domestic violence, which in many places is considered a private matter, is most often suffered by girls and womens of the family.
So ensuring the rights to protection of girls
should be fundamental.
Apart for all the above rights mentioned there are various fundamental rights that should be ensured to girls to deal with the current situation of the society.
Hopefully around a few decades back rights for girls/womens are claimed for them all over the world and also enshrined by the United Nations for every human on the earth. Changes were made in regards to Girl protection, education for girls, equality, right to health and much more. Thanks to all the Organization's, NGO, institution, and Human rights Commision who are working for Girls/Women's Rights.
I would also like to thank the Government of India for their "Beti bachao, beti padhao" movement which has achieved a lot of attention in our society and made changes in old beliefs of society.
There is still a long way to go, but without making these changes, girls around the globe will continue to slip through the crack. In their Implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals, it is critical that all of us intentionally and explicitly address all the issues faced by the girls and recognise the realisation of girls' rights as an objective in itself.
