Utang na Loob

There were times when we would badly need someones help. That would caused us have this, "DEBT of GRATITUDE".

Filipinos are fun of feeling shy when not being able to return the favor. It is one of our culture or trait that when someone did something good or a favor to us we would do our best to return it when given the chance.

But would you believe me that this is not a good thing?

I am a Filipino and I am so against this trait. Wanna know why?

ABUSE

This Debt of Gratitude or Utang na Loob could cause someone to be abused or you on that matter may be abused by those people who have done favor for you.

Well, in cases like this we may only see it in movie when someone did a favor and asked for something in return. It also happens in real life. A lot of people right now are suffering because of this Debt that no one would ever know how long would you have to pay. Others would even swear to serve a person in a lifetime just because of a certain favor that person have done.

Say for example POLITICIANS. now a days these people are so active because election in our Country is fast approaching. They are only active in these times but once election is done you would not even see them, except for those who are doing their job whole-heartedly but believe me you can count them on your fingers. They would be so good to be true because they are expecting for something in return. None other than but YOU and YOUR FAMILY'S VOTE.

There are even cases when your own relatives that who helped in times of need would prolly abuse you and make you like a nanny just because they helped you. HELP is not for FREE anymore there will always be this "DEBT OF GRATITUDE".

PADRINO SYSTEM

Utang na Loob also triggers this one Filipino trait that I despised, why?

Pradrino System is when you would have this responsibility to help someone who you family know or who you know just because they or he or she have done a favor to you or your family.

Example, when applying for a job. Of course, there will always be a competition especially in the Government but this trait is just so annoyingly present in everywhere which come to a point that even someone who is not qualified will be hired over that who passed the interviews or exam with flying colors just because they have some "KAKILALA" or a FRIEND inside the organization or Government agency.

This makes the competition unfair but this traits are so hard to kill since people have grown to this, became part of their lives and have been passed from one generation to the other.

HARRASS

Because of the said trait a woman especially when beautiful can be harrass or shall I say would allow someone to harrass them just because they have a favor to ask or they were able to take advantage of the person.

This is no good of course but how can you even know the culprit when the victim could just willingly do it for the sake of say, "MONEY" or whatever favor would that be.

The culprit especially when someone abusive would ask for sex and the likes just for you to be able to return the favor.

...end thoughts...

That is why when I do a favor to someone I see to it that the person is aware that he or she does not have any responsibility to return that favor because I am giving the help for free or without expecting anything.

Let us normalize HELPING THOSE IN NEED BECAUSE WE WANT TO HELP and not because of the thought that WE HELP SO WE CAN ASK HELP IN RETURN!

When you do good towards other people God will be the one to send help be it in any form all you gotta do is PRAY.

Also Mother Teresa mentioned, GIVING IS NOT GIVING UNLESS IT HURTS.
