Speeding Reading #101 and it’s perks (zuzuzu)

Yes, I can read a 4mins read article in 2mins. Have you ever heard about speed reading? Speed reading is simply the ability to read something quickly and more effectively. I stumbled upon the world of effective speed reading May 2020 in less than a day, I was able to double my reading speed as well as improve my comprehension on things I read. The average reading speed is 250 words per minute but I average 600 words per minute comfortably. It will become an invaluable resource for students, parents, researchers, writers and anyone looking to read- and comprehend—in a faster, more efficient manner. image source This is generally the type of reading an average human being does. It is a type of reading in which the reading pronounce the words he/she is reading in the head and reading line by line from left to right tor from right to left. Apparently, this kind of reading slows down the way we are able to read as we have to take time to pronounce the world in our heads. This type of reading may only be necessary when you need to study scientific textbooks and other technical materials. Visual Vertical Reading

Image source Unlike sub vocal reading, visual vertical reading do not involves pronouncing the words in the head, rather, the reader tries to get as much as possible information at the first glance. Visual vertical reading is a supersonic kind of reading and there have been reports of readers being able to read at a speed as high as 1500 words per minute. One of the disadvantages of this type of reading is that it isn’t effective when reading technical papers and textbooks.   Hand motions *"The author suggest the use of hand motions when reading and mentioned the following three basic functions;* *They help establish the fastest possible pace or rhythm for eye movements during the study of written material* *They enhance concentration. Remember, if you are not paying attention to the words when you use this technique, you’ll just be wiggling your hand on the page- and a few people will allow themselves to do that for very long* *They prevent regression, or going back over a material you’ve already read."*

Read the title, skim through any highlight words and bullet point, then read the last paragraph, this will enable you to have a grasp of what the write/author has to say. (This should be done in seconds). At the end of this first read, you should have an idea of the message the author is trying to pass across and should have questions 2. Read the body of the article. Don’t focus on trying to pronounce the words in your head. Just keep reading and try not read a word more than once.   I’ll advise that you will read the book recommended in this article.
