Once there lived a large lion in a jungle. He was very fierce and merciless.
He killed the animals not only to satisfy his hunger but also to have fun.
This created a panic among the animals. They could not fight with such a monster.
Therefore they made an agreement with him.
They said that they would offer him an animal daily to satisfy his hunger provided that he must not kill other animals.
The lion accepted the offer with pride. Daily an animal sacrificed his life to safe other animals. One day a hare was sent to him.
The hare was very sharp and shrewd. It desired to safe its life as well as the lives of ther animals.
It pondered over the matter for a while. Then a clever ideas flashed to through its brain.
It decided to trick the lion. Deliberately it reached the lion very late.
The lion got very furious at its late arrival. He asked the hare why it had come large so late.
The hare said in a mournful voice that while it was coming to him, another large lion attached it on the way.
It further told him that it could hardly escape from that lion. When the lion heard this, he got infuriated and roared at the top of his voice.
He said how any other lion could venture to trespass his kingdom.
He asked the hare to lead him to that transgressor.
The hare led the lion to a deep well that was half full of clear crystal water.
The hare said the other lion was inside the well.
The lion looked into the well and saw his own reflection.
He took it for another lion and jumped down into the well to fight with him.
In this way, he drowned.
