Watching a New Seagull Nest: My Photos

0 11

It is the Month of June which means its Baby Seagull Season. Seagulls typically mate from March to May, laying their eggs in late May. But the chicks usually show up in the next month. The nest can lay up to 2-3 eggs.

Recently I have caught a glimpse of a seagull nest across my house. I watched as one of the parents bringing food ( a fish) letting the little ones giving it a few nibbles before flying off. I managed to take couple of photos as you can see here.

The babies then proceeded to climb up the roof until they reached another of their parents that stayed behind. Seagulls as it turns out, make excellent parents, caring for their offspring until they are strong enough.

They are still a little bit clumsy but I expect to see them getting more and more active as they grow up. Interestingly enough there is always one of the pairs that is a lot braver when it comes to exploration than it sibling.

I hope to follow their development in the following weeks. The interesting thing about them is that they are known to grow up fast. They are able to leave the nest and start living independently while still having grey feathers. They only reach sexual maturity after 3 years.

I hope to post updates frequently.

You live nearby the sea? Will you write more about the seagulls adventures or what you see? Happy weekend.
