The semi-final of the Uefa Champions League kicks off later tonight as one of the two matches that will be played at this round will go down in Spain as Real Madrid host Chelsea for their first leg match.

The two semi-final matches can be regarded as the final because of the quality of the teams playing and none of the teams playing tonight can be underrated judging from their performance so far this season.

Real Madrid is coming into the match as the most successful team in the history of the competition while Chelsea last beautiful moment in the competition was in 2012 when they defeated Bayern Munich at the final of the Uefa Champions League, Real Madrid has won the title four times between the last time Chelsea won the competition and now.

The two teams are unfamiliar opponents when it comes to the Uefa Competition, the last time they met at the Uefa level was in 1998/99 when Real Madrid lost to the blues in a match that ended with a lone goal from Poyet in the 81st minute of the match.

Both sides had a challenging quarter-final fixture but they ended progressing despite the challenges. Real Madrid knocked out Liverpool right from the first leg that ended 3-1, we didn't get too much action in the second leg that ended 0 - 0 at Anfield while Chelsea narrowly escaped Porto threat in the second leg but they went on to progress to the semi-final for winning away.

Real Madrid is currently having a good time in the league and they can end up winning both the La Liga and the Uefa Champions League, they failed to catch up with the league leaders Atletico Madrid over the weekend, and with five matches to go, they can go on to win the league if Atletico fails to keep up with the space between the two teams.

Chelsea still playing in the competition remains a miracle to lots of fans because of their inconsistency at the beginning of the season. As it stands, they haven't solved the inconsistency issue but they have taken every Uefa Champions match seriously. They currently sit at the fourth position in the English Premier League and I would say it is an unsafe point for them if they fail to win the competition because lots of teams are trying to get hold of that same spot which could lead to them not participating in the coming Uefa Champions League.

With Zidane having more success between the two coaches, it would be difficult to predict the team that would be progressing into the next round of the competition. Funny enough, Chelsea's current manager Thomas Tuchel is playing in the second consecutive semi-final but with a different team.

He managed Paris-Saint German to the last season final but he was defeated by Bayern Munich which led to him losing his job at PSG, the manager would be looking forward to reaching the final and go as far as winning the Cup.

As difficult as it would be for both teams, one of the two teams must progress into the final stage of the competition.

We hope to see the best performer win.
