Compatibility in marriage is something we fail to pay attention to and it has resulted in many issues (which includes separation) for couples in the world we live in today. It makes me laugh how people take the issue of compatibility lightly but I wouldn't condemn anyone because lots of people are ignorant about the things they are supposed to know.
I usually encourage people to see a marriage counselor before any form of union so that both sides involved in the relationship would put lots of things into consideration before going deep into the marriage.
Gone are the days when people wait until they are about to make their union legal, I have seen people go for counseling immediately they start dating because anything could come up along the line.

I saw the need to write about this after I got a terrible response from a lady in my neighborhood and I wouldn't blame her lack of knowledge.
Without knowledge, we are blind to the world. We see things from a wrong direction and things make us take wrong decisions that could lead to enormous problems in the future.

In recent times, I have read about the death of people as a result of sickle cell. It breaks my heart to understand that the victims of this illness don't have any fault, their parents didn't consider the future of their kids before getting married and bringing kids to the world to suffer of such terrible illness.
I have had experience with people with these illnesses and the closes to me was a girl I taught when I was a teacher. She was very intelligent, she was the best in the class but health wasn't giving her the chance to explore the academic world. She misses school a lot of time but it was affecting her because she blends into schoolwork easily.
This young angel was every teacher's favorite because she was strong and full of life, she was very determined to study but her health was a setback. To cut the story short, this girl ended up losing her life despite fighting hard for her life.
Talking about compatibility is bigger than the physical appearance or the resources (money) available for the couples to have a good life.

What is blood genotype?
It is hereditary stuff we inherit from our parents. It is regarded as the kind of hemoglobin in our blood.
According to SYNLAB NIGERIA, Blood genotype indicates the type of protein (Haemoglobin) that is in the red blood cells. You could be Haemoglobin AA, AS, AC, SS, or SC, it is based on what is inherited from your parents.
Individuals with blood genotype SC and SS are said to have sickle cell disease while AS is known as sickle cell trait.
There are four genotypes but one is very rare among us.
The common ones are
AA
AS
AS
While the rare one is
AC.
Not all this genotype can be matched together, in order words some of the genotypes should not be joined together because the outcome will be bad.
A person with an SS genotype is not advisable to marry another SS or AS because they might or will have offspring with sickle cell.
We must go for a genotype test to know if you guys are compatible to avoid problems coming up later in the marriage, these problems can be very draining and the survival chances are very low which means the victim of sickle cell hardly survive with the genotype.
Some doctors will give you advice and full knowledge about everything you need to know about genotype compatibility, we must meet them for proper counseling before it won't matter anymore.
Many times we are blinded by love but what is love when there is no happiness or peace in the marriage, it is best not to bring the kids to the world than making them go through fighting the battle of survival till death take them away.
