April 30. The Czechs celebrates the "burning of the witch" day. it is used to believe that the power of witches would weaken as the weather got warmer. So they thought that if they made something that looked like a witch and burned it, so they could finally get rid of the cold weather. But according to myths/stories from great grandparents, here in vysocina, they really burned witches some 100+ years ago. like in any other parts of europe and america, where they burn people who they believed practicing witch craft and patronizing demons. But unlike in other areas, they used life size witch dolls, in our area only used regular witch dolls. heheh And before going home, after the witches where "punished", i bought this candy. its called turkish med. (med means honey here) for 2.50$.
