Look into the mirror and please like what you see,
You are what you envision and create as only you can be
Happy with yourself so truly get the balance right,
You may feel weak but let them see your inner might.
It's so easy to be hyper critical of others and yourself,
Just like reaching for the harder things on the upper shelf,
Sometimes it's just easier to choose the simpler option,
It's like that too when we come to attitude adoption.
We can slip into pessimism and have a gloomy outlook,
Let ourselves be overwhelmed pulled in by an unseen hook,
Be negative in feeling and reflect that with our own word,
Choose to only hear the bad missing anything else we heard.
I choose to smile and brighten up someone else's day,
Generally they smile back too reciprocating in fair play,
We both feel good and our optimism shines even brighter,
Turns you into a can do person makes you into a fighter.
Think of what you love about yourself and give it praise,
Be grateful for the things that make you unique and amaze
The person inside you by loving them for all their best parts,
Know yourself for that's where the healing then starts.
You can forgive or forget past failures if from them you learnt,
Be grateful of opportunities you took even if you got burnt,
Spend less time on regret and more on how you can do better,
Pretend to write yourself a "Dear John" reasons why letter.
In it say why you have to leave the bad parts of you behind,
State intentions to grow and the how and why to what you want to find,
Then form a pact with yourself to change and move on,
Leaving the past in the dust and stay focussed until you're done.
We have to want to change and it starts within us all,
Begin with little things first then respond willingly to the call,
For your heart will guide you in the direction that feels true,
As each day and decision comes trust you will know what to do.
And if you don't then never beat yourself up for mistakes,
Life is full of them but it builds a character and makes
Us more appreciative of what we have rather than lost,
It's good to know we count our wins but rarely count the cost.
Give as freely as you can and expect nothing in return,
Take the hand of friendship never the olive branch spurn,
Try to be magnanimous in a defeat which surely will come,
Learn to walk first before you feel the brazen right to run.
When you look into your own eyes and see your soul,
Don't flinch or shy away the purpose is to celebrate your goal,
To be happy with who you are now and who you'd like to become,
Life is about enjoying the now and having innocent fun.
I guess I want to hold your hand and say you are unique to me,
I feel blessed to have you be in my life in whatever capacity,
There is something so perfect about the soul housed in the shell,
You're gifted in ways I'd like you to express and start to tell.
Blow your own trumpet once in a while and listen to the call,
Then be still and hear that of others and don't let judgement fall,
Make your own decisions but listen to the counsel of others,
Treat a human being like you would your sisters and brothers.
And feel blessed within yourself to be a part of life's adventure,
It's just a short journey in the greater scheme so love each day for sure,
Be honest to yourself and others never bowing to peer pressure,
Fill your time with things to better yourself and give you pleasure.
Lastly when you see the lion reflected looking like a King,
Let the joy spill out and let your own heart be free to sing,
Allow it to find your way and guide the path to what you have to give,
In this life you need to develop and grow, as it may be all you live.
I am confident you can do it and will see someone you're proud to be,
Show me that person staring back and make me also clearly see,
I want to know the real you not some character you created to survive,
Show me your joy for living, show me you care that you're truly alive.
I think I can glimpse the seed of it waiting in those twinkling eyes,
I wait for it to grow into how you act and care, how the inner you tries,
I'm thrilled to think how much you shine from deep within,
The rest is but a vessel, keep it healthy, but it's just all clothes and skin.
That's why I don't dismiss anyone young or old, no matter the race,
It's just another temple to house that unique soul, growing behind that face,
And I smile and continue holding your hand and saying love who you wish,
But most of all love the inner you because you're really quite a dish!!
I love this! Did you make this up? If you did I give you props for making such a beautiful poem. It is 100% true and whoever reads this should really think about what it says and means.
