Djent is a form of heavy metal, which has evolved from progressive metal. Djent, which was invented by Meshuggah, is characterized by a peculiar technical complexity. I actually saw Meshuggah live around 2002 at Hultsfred, a Swedish festival. Swedish metal but a completely unique sound. Then we have Djent rap, produced by high-gain, distorted, palm-muted guitar. Hey I thought at least I read about all Metal genres... but I missed Djent... I've just searched some on YouTube... quite TechnoRIFFic ... but you're right, Meshuggah is quite unique: monotonic but a slightly warmer melody in the middle... is like the old railways with the century old wood base... warm to watch but tough as a rock. The pattern is quite monotonic, but every step in the rhythm is different because the texture there... and sometimes a change of the pattern.
