Cox's Bazar is the longest beach in the world and one of the most popular tourist destinations in Bangladesh. This thana town in southeastern Bangladesh is considered as the main town of Cox's Bazar district in Chittagong division. The longest beach in the world is located here. The beach stretches for 155 km from Cox's Bazar to Badramokam. There is also the largest marine fishing port and submarine cable landing station.
Once upon a time, the name of Cox's Bazar was Palangki. After the enactment of the British East India Company Ordinance in 183, an Englishman named Hiram Cox was appointed Director General of the couch. He also took many initiatives for the development of Cox's Bazar. Later, after his death, Cox's Bazar was renamed after him.
Cox's Bazar beach is one of the major tourist attractions of Bangladesh and the subcontinent. Every year innumerable people come from different countries of the world including Bangladesh to enjoy this longest beach. After all, most of the tourists from Bangladesh have to come to Cox's Bazar via Dhaka and Chittagong.
