Andvanced Perspective
There are benefits to acknowledging that we could be a little unusual, even if it doesn't mean we're a bad person.
It's possible that we belong to a distinct group of people who like the process of self-reflection above all else, attempting to make sense of their feelings, processing their emotions, and analyzing their immaturity. In our small group of self-aware individuals, we adhere to the ancient Greek exhortation to 'Know oneself' to the letter.
Our obsession with self-awareness has definitely given rise to a bizarre assortment of personality quirks. It's safe to assume we'll have a good time by ourselves. A day of self-indulgence might not be a bad idea for us. If someone cancels dinner on us, it's not a big deal. Taking things apart is something we might do in a journal or on our computer. In the evenings, we may enjoy long soaks in the tub or solo strolls. Even if we read a lot, we're always on the lookout for ways in which others' words reflect light on and better define aspects of our own personalities. With those who are always looking to remain on top of things, we're inclined to get impatient with them quickly. Over dinner, someone may have asked us, perhaps defensively, why it seemed like we were "interviewing" them, when in fact, we were simply channeling our own maniacal curiosity toward them.
It's not just the sex and cuddling that make love so exciting; it's the chance to talk about one of life's most fascinating occurrences, relationships, with someone in the moment.
Many of our favorite books will be on psychology, and even if we've had our share of bad therapists, we'll continue to find it fascinating. Even though it's been a long time since we lived with our birth family, we'll keep exploring how our past impacts our present as therapy encourages us to do; we're never entirely done thinking on mom and dad. Our feelings toward them haven't changed, but we're still quite interested in learning more about them.
Sitting in bed with a notebook and trying to figure out what it means to be alive is still our favorite pastime, even if other people attempt to convince us that other activities like going to the beach or to a party or shopping are fun.
After a long period of time, that's how we'd like to die. interested and attentive, wondering what the future holds and wondering what the brief trip through existence was all about. Neither afraid nor oblivious, just curious and attentive. It is possible that we will never fully understand ourselves, but we will have been at our most alive when we attempted to do so.
