Is it possible to determine at what age you are a mature being?
Maturity has been the subject of much debate, since it is said: "by being of legal age you are a mature person". But this fact does not depend on age alone.
Which leads to the following question: by being an adult, are you a mature being? the answer is; not necessarily.
Maturity is a state that develops with time, experience and learning. A mature individual has the ability to make good decisions at certain times, be prudent, cautious and has good judgment.
What do the experts say?
To be sure, it is not possible to say a specific age, however, scientists at Cambridge University have come to a conclusion. They estimate that by the age of 30 or older, the human brain is mostly developed.
However, people mature depending on their circumstances. So simple that it is reflected in their attitude, whether they have reasonable behavior or critical thinking. According to Professor Peter Jones of the epiCentre neuroscience institute at the same university:
"The brain completes a set of changes in the mid to late twenties, but it is always changing, as long as we are able to experience events as novel and form new memories."
Therefore, from the experiences that a person lives, his brain processes all the knowledge, data and information of this event. In this sense, all the learning captured by the brain brings input with respect to its maturity.
Different types of maturity
Biological or sexual maturity:
This is understood as the complete development of the reproductive organs, better known as puberty. It usually begins in pre-adolescence and adolescence, leading to adulthood.
Emotional maturity:
It develops in each person at an indeterminate age, unlike biological maturity, which manifests itself between 9 and 20 years of age. Emotional maturity is greatly influenced by society, family, among others.
However, it is expected to be a mentally stable person, with coherent thinking, etc.
What are the main characteristics of a mature person?
- It must be responsible.
- A reasonable person.
- Able to assume the consequences of their actions.
- Differentiate fact from fiction.
- Have self-esteem to take care of oneself and be confident.
- To have self-control.
What is meant by immaturity?
Consequently, immaturity is the opposite of maturity. On the other hand, it can be detected if a person fulfills the following aspects;
- They are insecure.
- Very susceptible to being easily offended.
- They think everything will go wrong.
- They lack emotional stability.
- Low tolerance for setbacks.
- Nervous.
- Bad losers.
- Not very committed.
