Heroes need a break too

Have you ever considered how strange it is that certain people are labeled as "strong"? People tend to treat people as if they are invincible after they establish a reputation for being able to put up with a lot without showing it.

When things are tough for them, they are forgotten about. Everyone assumes they're alright because everyone else assumes they're fine as well. But what happens if they aren't? What are people who are often seen as strong expected to do when they are feeling weak and alone?

The truth is that even the most powerful people face challenges in life. It makes no difference how strong you are or how strong others believe you are. Life is difficult for everyone, and there is nothing we can do about it but be there for one another and support one another, no matter who it is.

We need to pull together and aid one another more than ever at terrible times like these, when the world has been turned upside down by a virus, when everyone is going indoors and life is at its craziest and nothing makes sense. The most essential thing we can do is remember to keep an eye out for those who are too preoccupied with looking after everyone else.

People who appear to need the least assistance are generally the ones who are afraid to ask for it. They continue to suffer in silence, hoping that someone will check in on them to see whether they're okay.

Even the most resilient individuals can break apart at times. Nobody is immune; everyone breaks down at some point. Even the hardest of us require love, care, and support. Even the most solid rocks are eventually eroded by the waves, so we need to make sure we're there for each other when things become rough.

So, don't forget to thank the strong ones, the ones who assist you. For those who are always willing to help others when they are in need. For doctors, nurses, pharmacists, and grocery store employees. People who don't have a choice but to keep going. For those who, when everyone else is fleeing, run towards danger. They are always there for us, therefore we must ensure that we are always there for them.

Our sense of community, our experience of being able to rely on those around us, offers us strength in times of crisis. That is always a two-way street; we must be willing to both give and receive. Keep an eye on the individuals around you, especially the ones who everyone assumes are alright and never seem to ask for assistance. No matter what happens, the one everyone expects can keep going. They may be the ones who require assistance the most.

A nursr told me this - "Heroes conceal their true identities. This not only allows them to protect those they care about, but it also allows them to be more than just the person in the cape. I genuinely enjoy assisting others, but I simply cannot keep up with the pressure to always be the hero."

I'm sorry, but I won't be the one to stay up with you when you need me the most. When you're lost, I can't be the one chasing you down. I can't be the one who sacrifices the rest of my life to assist you with your own obligations. I'm not going to be the one to listen to someone vent about their significant other. I'm sorry, but I can't be the supportive buddy you've always counted on. I'm afraid I won't be able to fight all of your wars. I'm not capable of living your life. Worst of all, I am unable to prevent myself from burning out on my own since I am unable to say no to someone in need.

"Heroes aren’t fearless
Heroes are brave
Bravery requires fear
And fear is born of loving someone enough
That it’s loss would break you."
