Creative Block

There are few things in life that are more aggravating than being stuck in a creative rut.

You're attempting to come up with a new project concept but can't come up with anything. Your well of creativity has run dry. Or perhaps you're working on an existing project and are stumped as to what to do next. You're at a loss for what to do because you've run out of ideas.

Creative block is so annoying that it's been the subject of entire novels. If you Google "writer's block," which is effectively the same issue, you'll come up with hundreds of books on how to get rid of it.

The good news is that you can overcome your lack of creativity. So what is creative block and its causes?

Creative Block

The inability to come up with new ideas is known as creative block. It can happen while you're working on an existing project or when you're attempting to come up with something wholly unique but aren't sure what it should be about.

You feel trapped and empty, as if you don't have any more innovative ideas in the tank. You just can't seem to come up with anything new, no matter how hard you try.

There is frequently no single factor that contributes, but rather a variety of factors:

Mental Health

Depression and anxiety are two mental health disorders that can stifle creativity. When you're depressed, you frequently feel flat and listless, which makes being creative tough.

If you have anxiety, it's easy to become overwhelmed by the lack of inspiration you're experiencing, which will exacerbate your anxiety.

Deficiency in energy

Sleep deprivation can also cause a lack of creativity and energy, as well as feelings of helplessness and overwhelm, all of which can stifle creative thought. When you're feeling like a zombie, it's difficult to come up with new ideas.

There's a reason why some of the world's most creative people nap on a regular basis. Albert Einstein would take brief naps during the day in addition to obtaining a solid 10 hours of sleep at night.

Stress

Financial troubles, marital problems, professional concerns, family duties, and other stressors can make you feel artistically blocked.

You don't have time for anything else since you're so preoccupied with all the other worries in your life.

Perfectionism

Another typical cause of feeling like your creativity has dried up is perfectionism. You get the feeling that you won't be able to let go of something until it's perfect. The issue is that perfection is an unattainable goal, and the more time you spend striving to perfect your work, the slower you will progress.

The fear of failing

Another reason you've lost your spark could be a fear of failing. You shouldn't pursue any ideas unless you're certain they'll work. You're stuck because you can't think of any sure-fire ideas in which you're 100 percent assured.

The truth is that creative block isn't an illness that can be treated with medication. If only it was that simple! The causes are diverse and unique to each person. Fortunately, regardless of the source, there are a number of techniques for conquering it.

Final Words

As frustrating as it may be, creativity block is a common occurrence. Don't let it bring you down to your knees. Don't assume that you'll have to change careers because all of your ideas have vanished. There are a plethora of ideas available. All you have to do now is locate them.

Implement a few of these tactics the next time you feel like you're running out of ideas. The juices will start flowing again before you realize it, and you'll be humming away in no time.

There are many reasons why we experience creative block. First to address is anxiety. You won't get into any point if you are afraid of doing something. But the good thing about this issue is that there are ways or techniques that we can do to avoid this to happen. And I will be writing about this on my next article.
