The society is one of the major element of socialization.
Apart from this function, it is also a place where morals are adopted and youth are fine tuned to what it stands for.
Over the years, there have been some levels of decadence in the society and it tends to worry those who wants a better tomorrow for their wards.
As members of the society, I'm sure not everyone is keen to bring another soul into the corrupt society but as humans, we just have to procreate and fulfil the call of nature.
So now the question is where did we get it wrong?
1. Other agents of socialization: For a society to move forward its a great thing to socialize its inhabitants. But they way we go about it nowadays is wrong.
a. Family: The first agent of socialization is the family. Every child is an ambassador to his family which means how a child behave in the society, is a reflection of what is going on in his family. A broken family has the tendency to produce a broken child. They say "charity begins at home" if your children behave in an ill manner, and you just overlook it, then you are part of the problems. If as a parent, you cannot discipline your child, and each time someone outside does your duty you get annoyed, you are part of the problem. Don't be flabbergasted sometimes when you see some parents going to their children's school to insult a teacher. Now tell me what are you passing across to the child??
b. Social media: nowadays we learn a lot from the media be it good or bad, knowledge is knowledge.
There is a say that " what I say, I remember, what I see, I do" and also it is said that " out of sight is out of mind" .
Nowadays the community will not come up against a program that could stain the purity of the youth, but when the adversity arrives, they cry.
It is only a fool that does things the same way and expecting different results.
For instance, when did we embrace, the indecent male hairstyle? How? And why?
It was easy to embrace because each time we watch football and these players make these kind of hair, our parent won't talk. To the society and our parents, its normal for the players and musicians, so unknowingly to them they are the ones encouraging the maniac. And nowadays, we make those hairstyle at wedding ceremonies and it is okay to the parents.
Another instance is when our ladies started to embrace each other, call themselves pet names, display social stupidity like kissing each other publicly and call it sisterly love, we all kept quiet. But any time we hear of lesbianism, we frown at it, some will even say its spiritual. We all overlook the root of the problems while trying to solve the problems.
If you talk of indecent dressing as one of the causes of rape, people will come at you saying that you are trying to justify rape. They will claim that they have the freedom to wear what they like. And what they like is to expose their beauty and God given endowment.
Now the question is who gave them this freedom? No one but the community.
How many lecturer enters a class, spot an indecent dressing and send the student out? Very few. Even the few will be termed as wicked and inconsiderate. Wait, did i say lecturers? I'm sorry..i meant how many parents nowadays is even concerned on what their children wear? How many elders go against indecent dressing in public nowadays? Very few. Yet we want a better society.
2. Replacement of our cultural values with western education:
Seeking knowledge is great and right now western education seem to be the light to common problems to humanity.
But no doubt, it is one of the reasons we are where we are today.
I'm not asking us to not educate our children, but as a developing country, it is not wise for us to abandon our cultural values.
There are values from various culture that amounts to education.
It can be introduced into our system of education and will bring fortune to students. That is why nowadays if a student is unable to further his or her education after secondary school, he or she becomes useless. Education must not be western. Trust me its just a scam. What happens to irrigation system of farming? We teach agriculture in secondary school but at 18 a child cannot manage a mini farm. What happens to traditional clothe making(Adire and aso oke) what happens to weaving of mats and it likes, traditional production of milk, go to the north and east, try to find values that could amount to education, employ teachers in those aspect. What we do nowadays is schooling so sad.
Western education begin to teach our children about gender equity. During those teachings, it won't teach how to culture a male child and make him do house chores, but it will tell you that a female child needs education to make an equivalent of the male child. Deep inside us, we know that this gender equity is a scam. It is just a means to disrupt God's laid down plan for humanity.
There is no way you expose a lady to the vigorous activities meant for men that she will maintain the passionate characteristics of hers.
You tell a woman that what a man can do, a woman can do better and each time she wants to act as the head of the family you say no. Please who is fooling who?
As Africans, a female child education should not just be about book. It shouldn't be about being a doctor or a lawyer alone but also about building a family. It is what our mother's do. A good and decent family start with a decent mother.
Add it to the curriculum what and what is expected of her to do as a wife. Start from the early age and see wonders.
We complain that marriages don't last. How will it?
At home, very few parents educate their children about marriage. Everything they are after is go and read your book. I'm a victim too. My dad won't allow me sleep till 12:00 am in the name of book. In school it is not even taught. We allow the rotten society to teach them. So if she becomes a lawyer or a doctor, you think she will be submissive as a wife when she has virtually all that the man has? I laugh in Chinese.
3. Corruption: We go against corruption in public but almost everyone is keen to finding a way or the other to attain a public office.
When the society celebrate bigger thieves and kill the smaller ones, what do you think will happen?
When we celebrate celebrities who flaunt wealths that they cannot account for, we are definitely encouraging our youths to do the same.
Our ladies want to behave like the actresses they see on social media, they want to live an expensive lifestyle, they want to bleach, they want to expose their body all for what? All for nothing but acclaimed socialization. While our young men wants to emulate musicians, who truly did not make a living with money from music but hard drug and money laundering.
If they can't meet up to this standard, what do you think they will do?? Internet scamming, robbery, prostitution and the likes.
If the community is ready to make itself pure again, I think it is a collective responsibility.
If you fail to do your part, trust me you will earn the fruit of your failure one day.
A good community begins with a good family and a good family begins with a good individual.
