How to work from home

Many of us are now working from home to help spread the corona virus (COVID-19). For some people, this is a new experience and can affect their work, so it is important to establish some healthy habits so that you can work effectively.

Here are some healthy habits to do when working from home:

Maintain your routine

You just have to be more discriminating with the help you render toward other people. Think about it like any other day and that you are going to work right now. Get up at your usual time and do the activities you normally did before work. Dress like you're going to work too. You don't have to change into a full dress or suit and tie, but changing your outfit can help you switch to a "work mode" and create a balance between work and home.

Keep a separate workspace

Having a separate workspace helps create some boundaries between your work life and home life. A designated workplace can take you into "work mode" and into business. Therefore, the bed or sofa is not an ideal place as they are usually a place to relax. You will be spending most of your day at work, so make sure you have everything you need to help you stay focused and comfortable. Since there are so many things that can ruin you at home, from family members, coworkers, TV and video games, try and make your workplace a hassle-free place.

Set goals

Working from home means you are in charge of taking care of yourself. Set daily and weekly goals to see what needs to be done. Use a planner or whiteboard to help organize and prioritize your work through the need to complete a task first. Review your goals often to keep track of your tasks and plans. Reviewing your goals is also a great way to evaluate your work so that you can either adjust your goals or set new ones. Lastly, don't forget to reward yourself for accomplishing your goals. A small reward is very encouraging and encouraging.

Take a break and move around

As in the office, remember to take breaks throughout the day. Whether you make yourself coffee, have breakfast, play with your kids, or watch TV, try to leave your workplace and computer. Take some long breaks, sitting at a desk all day is not good for your body, so get up for a short walk and stretch your back, neck and shoulders. Moving away from the computer will also give you peace of mind as you may be staring at the bright screen all day. Also, sometimes you may feel stumped during the work day. Go to a different place to clear your head, provide a new perspective and help refresh yourself.

While there is currently a "shelter in place" order in San Jose,  you can still go out for a walk or to exercise for a . As long as you follow the social distance and stay 6 feet away from others.

Stay connected

Given the current situation, it is more important than ever for us to stay connected. Thanks to technology we have different means of communicating with each other via email, phone and video conferencing. Keep your supervisor updated about your work and check in with your teams to make sure tasks and plans are completed. Staying connected can help keep team spirit alive, especially now. Be sure to check in with your colleagues as well to make sure they are doing well.

Finish the work day

Working from home makes it seem like you always have to connect and work when you don't have to. You want to work to maintain a good balance in life so that they do not overlap because it can be very stressful and can affect your mental health. As part of your routine, set a schedule so you can finish at the same time each day. Just like at work, when the clock strikes 6 o'clock, turn off your computer, clean your workspace, and stop working.
