Some days ago I got this inspiration that what made David a man after God's heart was David's heart for service. What could make a shepherd boy to risk his own human life twice for an animal life. Again the animals were not his own. He was a mere steward but a very faithful one at that.
So God called him a man after his heart because God himself was going to lay down his divine life for mortal men. The creator was going to stoop low to die for his creature.
Serving others make you a man after God's heart because God is the servant of mankind. He added that the greatest amongst us will be the servant of all.
As human beings we should always be engaged in any work and stand by each other. That is why man is the greatest creature of nature.
