Let's talk about history

The Tripitaka Koreana is the world’s most complete collection of Buddhist texts, laws, and treaties. It is carved into 81,258 wooden printing blocks which date to the 13th century. With over 1496 titles and 6568 volumes, the collection consists of 52,330,152 characters, all engraved without errors. ⠀

The original Tripitaka was created in 1087 but it was destroyed During the Mongol invasions of Korea in 1231. In 1237, King Gojong ordered the recreation of the Tripiṭaka, and the collection was completed after 16 years. It was housed in Haeinsa Temple on Mount Gaya in South Korea’s South Gyeongsang Province, where it is still preserved. The Tripitaka Koreana was declared a National Treasure of South Korea in 1962 and the Haeinsa was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1995. ⠀
