So let's get started😊
Have your ever heard about Kakku?
Well, Kakku is an ancient temple complex located within Myanmar’s Shan State. The site features rows of 2,478 stupas that cover the hillside overlooking the Inle Lake. Its construction dates as far as the 3rd century BCE by the Indian Emperor Ashoka.
While most of the stupas were erected in the 17th and 18th centuries, the largest stupa was built by Alaungsithu, King of the Bagan empire in the 12th century.
Most of the stupas are decorated with sculptures carved in stucco. Many are flanked with an ornamental umbrella called hti. They feature images of higher beings such as Buddha, deities, and mythical creatures. While the site is being restored, some of the stupas are damaged from the extreme weather and earthquake.
The Kakku is also the center of worship for the Pa-O people. They celebrate the Kakku Pagoda festival on the 12th month of the traditional Burmese calendar.
