When the Great Plague ravaged England in 1665, the Trinity College, Cambridge where Isaac Newton studied was forced to close. Few months after obtaining his undergraduate degree, then 23-year-old Newton retreated to his family farm in Woolsthorpe Manor. He spent 18 months in isolation and made exceptional discoveries that marked the period as “annus mirabilis” or "miraculous year."⠀
⠀
While in quarantine, Newton developed a mathematical theory that later became calculus. He also studied optics and conducted experiments with prisms where he found out that white light is comprised of all the components of the spectrum. He also formulated the law of universal gravitation in the same period.⠀
⠀
Because of his discoveries, Newton is regarded as one of the most influential scientists of all time.⠀
