Hello guys here's another history topic. Hope you guys enjoy reading๐
Let's get started.
On 9 July 1776, a copy of the Declaration of Independence had reached New York City. George Washington, the Commander-in-Chief of the Continental Army, read it in front of the crowd gathered at the Common, now City Hall Park.โ
โ
After the hearing the Declaration, the revolutionary organization Sons of Liberty pulled down the statue of King George III installed at the nearby Bowling Green Park in Lower Manhattan. The lead equestrian statue weighing 1,800 kilograms was commissioned in 1766 and was erected in the park in 1770. It was melted down and was made into 42,088 musket balls, which were later used against the British. โ
