Many people are confused about the meaning of the greenhouse effect. So, what is the greenhouse effect? The greenhouse effect has the benefit of keeping the earth's temperature from getting too low.
Earth's surface temperature can be as low as 0 degrees Fahrenheit or -up to degrees Celsius if there is no greenhouse effect. Behind a series of negative sides of the greenhouse effect which is considered to be damaging to the earth, it turns out that the greenhouse effect has a major role in human life.
Meanwhile, what causes damage and global warming is too much gas produced by the greenhouse effect. Too much of this gas will cause the Earth's surface temperature to rise to a number that is beyond the normal threshold and beyond control.
Therefore, to avoid such a misunderstanding, we should find out more about the meaning of the greenhouse effect and its relation to global warming. Check out a review of the meaning of the greenhouse effect below.
Definition of the Greenhouse Effect
Understanding the greenhouse effect is a process that occurs when gases in the Earth's atmosphere trap heat from the sun. Where this process occurs naturally because Earth has an atmosphere.
With the heat of the sun that cannot get out of the Earth's atmosphere, the temperature on the Earth's surface becomes warm. This greenhouse effect will make life on Earth more comfortable.
The term greenhouse effect can refer to two different things, in which the understanding of the greenhouse effect that has previously been explained is the meaning of the greenhouse effect in one sense. Broadly speaking, the greenhouse effect can be interpreted into two things, namely:
The first definition of the greenhouse effect refers to the greenhouse effect that occurs naturally on Earth, as previously described.
While the second understanding of the greenhouse effect refers to global warming, where the greenhouse effect is increasing and occurs as a result of negative human actions.
Greenhouse Effect Process
The process of the greenhouse effect follows the way a greenhouse works, where a greenhouse is a building consisting of walls and a roof made of glass.
Gases in the atmosphere such as carbon dioxide will trap the sun's heat like glass in a greenhouse. This gas trapped in the Earth's atmosphere is called the greenhouse effect.
During the day, the sun's heat penetrates the atmosphere, causing the earth's surface to warm. When the earth's surface cools at night, the sun's heat is released back into the air.
But not all of the heat will be released because some of it is trapped in the atmosphere. The heat trapped in the atmosphere is what will keep the earth's temperature comfortable and warm at night.
Unfortunately, humans are changing the Earth's natural greenhouse effect. The increase in greenhouse gases is caused by the burning of fossil fuels such as fuel oil, coal, and other organic fuels.
This results in an increase in greenhouse gases in the Earth's atmosphere. This will trap more heat from the sun. This is what causes the Earth's temperature to heat up. Too much of this greenhouse effect also contributes to global warming.
That is an explanation of what the greenhouse effect is, starting from the understanding of the greenhouse effect to the process of its occurrence.
