Kebbi, state, northwestern Nigeria. It was made in 1991 from the southwestern portion of Sokoto (q.v.) state. Kebbi outskirts the countries of Niger toward the west and Benin toward the southwest, and it fringes the Nigerian conditions of Sokoto and Zamfara toward the north and east and Niger toward the south. Kebbi's region comprises of short-grass savanna that is depleted southwestward by the Niger River and its feeder, the Sokoto (Kebbi) River. The majority of the Kainji Reservoir, framed by the Kainji Dam further downstream on the Niger River, lies in the southern segment of the states.
