I will tell you a short story about a blind boy that will somehow tell us what is gratitude.
There was a blind boy who sat on the steps of a building and a hat by his feet. He is holding a sign which says, “I am blind, please help”.
He only receives a few coins in the hat, just some spare change from the folks who hurriedly pass by. Then, there was a man who walks by. He put a few coins and dropped them into the hat out from his pocket. He then grabbed the sign and turned it around and wrote some words. After writing he put back the sign to the young boy's hand so that the new words will be seen by everyone who walks by.
Then the hat began to fill up. Many people are giving money to the blind boy compared to before. Later that afternoon, the man who changed the sign returned to see how things work. “Are you the one who changed my sign this morning? What did you write?” asked the boy as he recognized the footsteps of the man.
“I only wrote what is the truth. I write what you said but in different ways” “Today is a beautiful fay, but I cannot see it.” That's what I wrote, said the man. Both signs speak the truth. The first sign simply said you are blind, while the second sign conveyed to everyone who walks by how grateful they should be because they can see.
When your life is filled with troubles, it seems very difficult to maintain an attitude of gratitude right? All we see was our problems like we are cursed.
And when we are at times when everything seems going smoothly, we often take these moments for granted too. We are too spoiled with bliss, comfort, familiarity, and all of it. We tend to forget how to be thankful.
So what then is gratitude?
In simple notation, gratitude is a habit. A feeling of appreciation regardless of whatever circumstances you are in whether you like it or not. It's a way of looking at the world from positive angles.
A heart-centered approach to being at peace with yourself and with what you have is gratitude. It attracts even MORE things to be thankful for when you keep practicing the feeling of gratitude.
Always look at the bright side of your situation, we all have difficulties nobody exists without it we just have to look at the brighter side of everything to make things easy going or at least gives you a little hope and peace.
They are a lot of things to be grateful for just have the attention to recognize all of it.
Have you ever say thank you when someone offers you help? when someone helps you to finish a task? when someone consoles you when you are down? when someone extends their hands when you fall and helps you get up? Have you ever say thank you to those people who offer you to earn some extra? Or help you find a job? Have you ever whisper into the wind “Thank you, for the free oxygen ”. Have you ever say thank you even for the tiniest things you have?
Gratitude is also a feeling of being thankful when someone is there extending their help even if you didn't ask them.
Always practice gratitude because not everyone does not possess what you have.
