Aside from helping to flatten the curb, many animal owners in Antique are busy doing important work - "fattening the cattle" or fattening cattle. While preventing the spread of the virus, cow feeding is progressing in the backyards of some micro entrepreneurs in Sibalom, Antique. "Fattening cattle in the backyard is about buying young healthy stocks, feeding them properly and selling them at the proper time." according to DOLE. As a backyard industry, it provides a source of income for Filipinos without exposing them to the pandemic brought on by Covid-19. According to the DOLE, recently 20 cattle raisers belonging to the Pangpang Maket Vendors and Livestock Raisers Association were happy because they expected a 10-percent increase in their income. The expected higher income comes from the extra capital provided to their business for raising cattle. The assistance came from the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) which provided P797,760.00 for the organization's economic assistance. In addition to the cattle raisers, 6 market vendors and 10 beneficiaries involved in pig fertilization received DOLE assistance. The aid also supported 14 other members of the organization who are in various food businesses. engaged in swine fattening received the DOLE assistance. The aid also supported 14 other members of the association who are into various food businesses. "Livelihood assistance was aimed at boosting the beneficiaries' income by 10 percent," said DOLE Regional Director Cyril L. Ticao, who turned over the said assistance. "It was also meant to generate additional self-employment opportunities in the community to help hard-hit residents cope with the global health crisis," the official added. For his part, Labor Secretary Silvestre Bello III said that the strong desire of the beneficiaries to fight the pandemic despite the trials is to choose to stay instead of succumbing to the deadly virus. The secretary reminded the members of the said organization to be vigilant against Covid-19 in following safety and health protocols implemented by the government. "Yes, defeating Covid 19 is a tall order but together we can slowly but surely stop it from winning the battle," said the Labor chief. Jocelyn Tabangcura-Domenden
