Have you left anything? Have you anything left? These are the great questions that needs appraisal. Why, one could wonder what is now happening here in our humble abode called earth. Floods, earthquakes, typhoons, anything you could think to name of these dreadful disasters running wild, leaving millions of damages, loss of thousands of lives along in its wake, making once a green pasture into an untillable land. Is mother earth now reeking in vengeance? Who is to be blamed? What could be done to address this challenge?
Jean Jacques Rousseau once said, “Everything is good when it leaves the creator’s hands. Everything degenerates in the hands of man.” Precisely! Who is behind all of these? We are, the passenger and supposedly the steward of our planet Earth. Now, how far must suffering and misery go before we see that even in the day of vast cities and powerful machines, the good earth is our Mother and that we destroy her, we destroy ourselves? It is high time for us to man up and face the problem. Change! A word that weighs heavy and demands responsiveness and responsibility to each of us. The bombardment of disasters are inevitable but can be minimized if we just put our hearts into it. Preparedness is also a key to unlock this shackles that binds us to idleness. Various programs were being launched by the government to emphasize the necessity. We, in our own little way can help by engaging ourselves in this demanding battle that we put ourselves in. It is our calling! The calling to head towards the betterment of our society and to this world as a whole.
Our task now is not to fix the blame for the past but to fix the course for the future. The complexity of the present times calls for people empowerment. It is with the active and full support of the people that we hope to be able to traverse the road to progress and happiness. Now then, if not us, who will? If not now, when? Remember, we are here today and gone tomorrow.
